Increased Bus Routes Help Students Get To Class Quicker

Changes to RTS system
Route 12: Service frequency will change to every 18 minutes from 6:20 a.m. to 6:56 a.m., every 9 minutes from 6:56 a.m. to 6:25 p.m. and every 20 minutes from 6:25 p.m. to 2:40 a.m.

Route 21: Service frequency will increase to every 20 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and every 10 minutes from 7:10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 22: New route running Monday through Friday, every 25 minutes from 6:50 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. and from 1:55 p.m. to 6:05 p.m.

Route 29: Service reinstated, running Monday through Friday, every 30 minutes from 7:22 a.m. to 10:22 a.m. and 1:50 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.

Traffic can be a nightmare on the first day of classes at the University of Florida, but a few changes might make today’s commute easier.

Gainesville’s Regional Transit System has added two routes and expanded service on two others that go to campus. For drivers, UF has added hundreds of parking spots on campus.

“For the first time in a long time, there’s a little bit of an increase,” said Ron Fuller, assistant director of UF’s transportation and parking services.

The biggest change is a new garage opening on Gale Lemerand Drive near Mowry Road. It has 920 spaces mainly for faculty and staff, with the top two floors available for students with green decals.

Other changes include students with a Red 1 pass being able to park in a lot just south of Jennings Hall, previously reserved for faculty and staff. Hundreds of park-and-ride spaces have also been added around the new lacrosse complex, east of the Harn Museum of Art.

For bus riders, RTS created a route running between McCarty Hall and Forest Park. Service has been restored on a route between Beaty Towers and Cobblestone Apartments.

In addition, service frequency has increased on routes between McCarty and two apartment complexes: Cabana Beach and the Gateway at Gainesville.

“We’re just getting more buses in there and a greater duration so students aren’t missing their classes,” said Chip Skinner, RTS spokesman.

The expanded service is a result of a 68-cents-per-credit-hour increase in a student transportation fee. The increase is expected to raise about $346,000 in additional revenue.

Roommate Matching Parties in April

The Woodlands of Gainesville invites all current and future residents to come out for our Roommate Matching Parties. Come out and pick your own roommates for next year.

Here are the dates and times for our Roommate Matching Parties:

SUNDAY, APR 19
10a – 3 BR Flats and Townhomes (Male only)
12p – 3 BR Flats (Female only)

THURSDAY, APR 23
10a – 2 BR Flats (male and female)
12:30a – 2 BR Townhomes (male and female)
1p – 2 BR Gardens (male and female)

FRIDAY, APR 24
11a – 4BR Gardens (male, female and co-ed)

SUNDAY, APR 26
11a – 3 BR Townhomes (female only)

The parties will be held in the Woodlands Clubhouse. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. The parties end at various times depending on how large the group is. We want for everyone to get a chance to meet each other! Just a heads up, the 3 BR Townhomes and 4 Bedroom Gardens (for both male and female) could take a few hours. The 2 BR floorplans (all) and 3 BR Flats should only take 1-2 hours.

The parties will be a lot like speed-dating. Everyone will have the chance to meet each other for a couple minutes and get to know them and rate them. At the end of the party, yall can decide who your best matches are and we will put yall together in your unit.

Gators in the BCS National Championship Game

The Woodlands of Gainesville invites all its residents to come watch the Gators beat the Sooners in the clubhouse’s HD movie theater. The game airs on Thursday Jan. 8 at 8pm on Fox. It will be broadcast on all the TVs in the clubhouse for residents and friends to view.

Move-In News/Updates

All of us here at The Woodlands are very excited about move-in next month! Progress on the construction site is still ahead of schedule with many buildings already complete and just waiting for the Certificate of Occupancy from the city. Here are some reminders for residents regarding move-in on August 8:

All residents are required to schedule a move-in appointment. This is when you can pay your rent, pick up your keys and complete any necessary paperwork for your file. To make your appointment, please call the leasing office at (352) 395-6110 Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Time slots are filling up, and as of 7/7/08 the earliest move-in appointment is 6:30 p.m. for August 8.

First month’s rent is due at move-in on August 8. Residents can pay with a credit card, money order or cashier’s check. If you wish to pay with a credit card, a $7 processing fee will be added.

First month’s rent can also be paid using a personal check, and that is due to the office by July 20.

The Woodlands of Gainesville is hosting multiple Roommate Matching Parties in April based on the floorplan. These parties will give you the chance to pick your own roommates! The Woodlands Of Gainesville Leasing Center Opening

The Woodlands of Gainesville, a brand new student living community of townhomes and condos, is hosting a Leasing Center Grand Opening celebration on Saturday January 12th from 12 to 5 pm on site at 1055 SW 62nd Blvd. in Gainesville. Food, drinks and prizes will be given away throughout the event. Students will also be given a final opportunity to receive a $500 check for signing a lease for the 2008-2009 school year.

Designs call for a 10,000 sq. ft. clubhouse offering a state-of-the-art fitness center, resort-style pool area, movie theater, indoor driving range, gathering and study areas, tanning beds, billiards and internet cafe. The community offers individual leases and is all-inclusive, so utilities are included in the rent. The two, three and four bedroom units are all furnished and start at $555 a bedroom.
